Racial profiling has been seen and heard about throughout the world, but in the United States, it's an issue that we think needs more attention. The American Civil Liberties Union states that, "Racial profiling is a longstanding and deeply troubling national problem despite claims that the United States has entered a 'post-racial era.'" We hear about people of different races being stopped for irrational reasons and arrested or even killed in some cases. This is not a problem that is just happening today, it dates all the way back to when slavery was popular. If you saw an African-American walking around the streets, freed or enslaved, the police was legally authorized to stop and detain them. Today you see law enforcement target people of a certain race, ethnicity, religion or national origin, without evidence of criminal behavior or activity. We rely on policemen to protect us and make us feel secure, but in reality they become the villain when it comes down to who poses as a threat to them. Racial profiling has led many groups of people to live in fear of being a "suspect" to law enforcement all just because of the color of their skin and their cultural background.
